What will the year 2024 bring for the pharmaceutical industry? Outsourcing of packaging services is important like never before.

Operating in the pharmaceutical market, we are observing the changes and trends that await us this year. Pharmaceutical companies must be prepared to adapt to new trends and innovations to compete effectively in the market. Therefore, we are closely examining the anticipated transformations. We are committed to actively supporting you, ensuring that our team stays up-to-date with what is happening in the industry. So, what innovations and changes await us in the coming year?

Outsourcing of contract packaging services in a strong position

One of the key areas that significantly influences the development of the pharmaceutical sector is the growing importance of outsourcing contract packaging services. Outsourcing such services to an external company has become an essential element of the strategies for companies seeking efficient and flexible solutions. With increasingly demanding standards, outsourcing the packaging of medicinal products or medical devices becomes a crucial tool, allowing companies to focus on their core competencies. Additionally, companies opting for this strategy gain access to specialized knowledge and resources. Contract secondary packaging outsourcing at Prespack involves comprehensive support for pharmaceutical entities in both services and the supply of packaging materials. We operate based on a Manufacturing Authorization for Medicinal Products and GMP Certification. Collaborating with an experienced partner in the packaging sector can bring numerous benefits, strengthening the position of the company in the competitive pharmaceutical market.

Cost optimization

In the face of growing competition and pressure to increase efficiency, companies are beginning to recognize the need for strategic cost management. Analysis and optimization of expenditures become crucial elements in maintaining competitiveness and ensuring financial stability. To enhance business efficiency and streamline processes, outsourcing contract packaging services for pharmaceutical products and medical devices comes to the rescue. Companies like Prespack, known as a Contract Packaging Organization (CPO), provide comprehensive services tailored to companies in the pharmaceutical sector. This contributes to reducing workload and resource requirements on the manufacturer's side. Pharmaceutical companies often outsource contract packaging, thereby reducing costs in areas such as storage, labeling, serialization, aggregation and logistics. Everyone benefits from this – your company saves on labor costs and the purchase of technological solutions, and patients receive products manufactured in a safe manner. This way, you gain a significant competitive advantage!

Digitization and innovative approach

It is impossible to overlook the role that digitization plays in the modern pharmaceutical industry in this compilation of trends. With technological progress, companies are becoming aware of the potential that comes with the full utilization of modern digital solutions. From research and development processes to supply chain management, digitization becomes a driving force for innovation, reducing the time to market and increasing operational efficiency.

Safety and full traceability are crucial factors. Pharmaceutical serialization and aggregation are two complementary processes that facilitate the achievement of these goals. This opens up new possibilities in tracking medicinal products throughout the supply chain. It is inherently linked to the modernization of the production process. Serialization is a legal requirement, and aggregation allows for radical time savings. It eliminates the need to open each batch or bulk packaging to find and scan an individual product, ensuring that there is no duplicate serial number among serialized products. All data is easily accessible, making it easy to track products. This positively impacts the efficiency of the distribution process and, consequently, the safety and reliability of processes.

Analyzing trends and changes arising from the needs of our clients, our offerings include both serialization and pharmaceutical aggregation services. We aim to provide our partners with additional options to secure their products.

Changes in polish regulations regarding the Registration of medicinal products, medical devices and biocidal products

Changes in Polish regulations regarding the Registration of medicinal products, medical devices and biocidal products came into effect on January 3, 2024, shaping a new landscape in the approval and introduction process of medicines to the market. A key initiative in this regard is the simplification of information included in marketing authorizations for medicinal products, aiming to streamline and increase transparency throughout the process.

From now on, authorizations will include information about the name and address of the manufacturer or importer where batch release takes place, as well as the location of manufacturing or import activities where batch control occurs. This significant simplification, in accordance with Article 23(1)(2) of the Pharmaceutical Law dated September 6, 2001, is intended not only to increase transparency but also to align regulations with current standards and industry needs.

It is worth noting that the change in the names of authorization points does not require additional regulatory actions from the responsible entities. This is crucial, especially since these changes do not affect the documentation of medicinal products or decisions already issued. Pharmaceutical companies can consciously adapt to the new regulations, knowing that these changes do not entail the need for a re-review of documentation or additional administrative actions.

It is also worth noting that the introduced changes cover decisions regarding a change in the responsible entity, decisions regarding the extension of the validity period of the authorization, and decisions changing the authorization in terms of control locations and batch releases. The new shape of the regulations thus presents new challenges to the pharmaceutical industry but at the same time opens the door to more efficient and coherent operation in the market.

Summary

The pharmaceutical industry in 2024 faces a series of challenges but also new opportunities for development. A key element will be the adept utilization of trends such as outsourcing, cost optimization, digitization and an innovative approach to gain a competitive advantage and effectively respond to the changing market needs.
